Our Story

The Farm.

Hill Lake Farm is a small-scale regenerative farm nestled in the heart of the Warwick Valley. Founded in 2023 by Kathryn Warren, an engineer turned farmer, the farm is designed to help people reclaim the health and resilience of their bodies, families, and communities—one meal at a time.

Our work is guided by a simple governing principle: to work with nature, never against it. Through thoughtful land stewardship, nutrient-dense food, and education rooted in real-world practice, Hill Lake Farm aims to restore the connection between soil, food, and human health.

The farm focuses on permaculture principles, and utilizes regenerative farming practices that not only nourish our land, but also our bodies. You will never see the use of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, synthetic fertilizers or any other chemicals that are fundamentally opposed to life. Our soils here are alive, and this teaming microbial life is critical to the health of our soils, our plants, our animals and our people. It is this diversity of life that creates a robust environment where we can all thrive.

The Farmer.

Hi there, I’m Kathryn Warren, the founder and mind behind Hill Lake Farm – where engineering meets ecology, and healing begins from the ground up.

As a Civil Engineer by trade, I have always had a passion for sustainability, and the environment but it wasn’t until becoming debilitatingly sick with underlying digestive issues and a flaring autoimmune condition that I would learn the true meaning of food as medicine.

After experiencing a health scare in 2020, I was left unable to work, unable to eat, and unable to find a solution to these extreme digestive issues. I was finally forced to reckon with the systems and structures that had led me down this road: a dysfunctional medical system with doctors who knew nothing about nutrition, and a broken food system filled with marketing and misinformation.

After deep research and radical lifestyle change, I was able to put all of my chronic symptoms into remission and to restore my health — achieving what doctors had said was impossible. I tried to go back to my job but a seed had already been planted…

In 2022, I made the difficult decision to leave a successful career as a Civil Engineer behind to embrace my passion for farming and healthy living. I became a Civil Engineer so that I could help design a stronger community for generations to come, but it wasn’t until getting sick myself that I found my true calling. My dedication to nurturing myself back to health, revealed the parallels between building a robust ecosystem and a robust body.

Regenerative medicine and regenerative farming follow the same underlying principles for building resilient systems. I now use my engineering mindset to design systems that restore soil, conserve water, and nourish our land and bodies. I am driven everyday by deep curiosity, respect for the land that gives us life, and a desire to create something that lasts far beyond my lifetime.

The Mission.

A quiet rebellion.

In a world that tells you everything should be more convenient, it’s revolutionary to choose the longer yet more fulfilling path; to choose wellness in a world that is unwell.

With chronic disease sky rocketing in our children and adults, with thousands of suspicious food additives, and millions of pounds of chemicals sprayed onto our food…it’s time for change. Time to get well. Let’s make health & wellness spread as easily as disease does today.

Everything that is grown or produced here at Hill Lake is done so with the utmost care for both people and planet. We focus on bringing back the traditions and processes that once sustained our health for generations. Nutrient dense food, grown under the sun, by hand. We embrace new technologies so much as they aid in our ability to steward our land, but never as far as to sever the precious connections we share with all of the life around us.
